A Phone Call

Who knew a phone call could mean so much.

Aaron and i got to talk on facebook for just a few minutes when he first made it to Kuwait on Thursday. He was doing well, just tired from the LONG day of traveling and hungry because he didn't like the airplane food at all "it smelled bad" he said haha. I was hoping to get a phone call or meet up with him online again before he left there for Afghanistan but had no such luck.

From some of the other army wives whose husbands have deployed with him, i've been able to keep track of where he most likely is. Those women have been lucky enough to get calls almost everyday from their husbands. I had not been so lucky. I must have missed the memo telling me to send Aaron with a calling card. [live and learn]

It's been almost a week. And i feel like a baby (i feel like im whinning) waiting for him to call...i have my phone with me every second of the day and have it on loud just so i won't "accidentally" miss a call from him. My heart leaps every time i hear it ring.

AARON FINALLY CALLED!! I had been praying for this night and day since he left Kuwait. Last night especially, i was aching to hear from him and i stayed up till 1 just praying and praying that he would somehow get a chance to call me soon.
GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS! This morning at 1:30am i got a phone call from him. Sadly i was so out of it we didn't talk but for 2 1/2 minutes (literally) and i cannot recall much of what was said.
But that's OK... I can't do anything about that now. At least I heard his voice and it made me happy!! Now I'm waiting for the next phone call and i pray that i'll be alert enough to actually have a decent conversation with him. And im also praying that he'll call soon...even though it's going to be hard since he doesn't have a calling card yet and is relying on other people's "precious phone minutes"

** I'm trying to stay positive. It's pretty hard, but im hoping to get involved in church and a Sunday school with some people that i can fellowship with and have a support group.

Married to a Soldier!!

I went to New York to visit Aaron during my spring break in March. I had only intended to stay for a week and head back to school but things changed. Aaron and i decided to get married while i was there. March 19,2010 Aaron and i finally became Man and Wife. :)
Let me tell you, after much waiting, much debate about waiting even longer, and much prayer we were both happy with our decision. Yes, we did miss having our parents and siblings and some friends being a part of our big day, but we're planning to have another ceremony for friends and family to witness the "renewing of our vows" when he gets back.

I ended up staying in NY for a little over a month. Thankfully, we had some amazingly generous people that allowed us to crash at their places and invade their family and togetherness time. I can never thank them enough! I got to meet a lot of amazing people while i was there and hopefully made some lifelong friends.

Aaron left for Kuwait 4/22 (Thursday) and he and his group arrived on Friday. They're now supposed to fly to Afghanistan within the day. So please pray for him and his group. I had the opportunity to meet a few of the guys Aaron is going to work along side with and although they are some nice people, there are many who are desperately in need of Jesus.

I moved back to Waco so that i could be closer to family during this time that Aaron's going to be gone. We both agreed i should be close to home for a good support system. Right now im living with my parents while im looking for an apartment and a job. Hopefully i can keep busy enough so i won't be too lonely without my husband. He's only supposed to be gone for a year so im praying this year goes by extremely fast because i miss him sooo already!!

Update.

It’s been a while since the ENGAGEMENT. And lets just say that life is never easy. So this is what has been going on lately.
December 09- Aaron got to spend a few days in Texas with my family for Christmas. I loved getting to share my family Christmas traditions with him, and he got to meet most of my family besides just my parents and sister.
Then I went to New York with him for a week and got to spend New Years with him in Fort Drum. Getting to see him for two whole weeks was amazing. Long distance is totally not easy especially when you’re in different states.

January- I moved to Tyler and moved in with Amber. She’s an amazing roommate! I decided to go to TJC and get some basics out of the way because it would be cheaper that way and I needed a break from SFA. It took me a while to find a job. A while meaning TWO months!!!

February- I finally went back to working (reluctantly) in the mall at the Body Shop. I am truly blessed to have this job though. Everyday [after I complain] I thank God for the job I have and the people I work with. VALENTINES DAY was amazing. The Friday before, I had class and then a long day of work. I got home and had an amazing surprise waiting for me. Aaron got some beautiful flowers, a snuggly soft teddy bear and some good chocolates delivered to me. It was truly beautiful and so sweet!! (i'll try to post pictures later)

As March is coming up, im looking forward to Spring Break. Everyone loves spring break, but I am extremely excited that I will get to spend my week off in NY again, seeing the man that I love, before he deploys. Aaron is set to deploy around March 20th. Im so thankful to have gotten that whole week off of work too! Just 5 more days and I’ll be in New York again with my fiancĂ©.

That’s all for now.

ENGAGED!!

Well Aaron came back from AIT for about a month in April. Aaron and i had been talking about our relationship for a while, and wondering where it was gonna go when he moved to New York. (all this happened over the phone since that's the only way we could communicate) Then he asked me to come to NY with him as his wife. And i told him i'd have to pray about it and stuff. Well, after ALOT of praying, and finally talking with my parents who were and are very supportive, i felt at peace with the decision to say yes. He still had two weeks at AIT and was very curious to know the answer, but i made him wait, because i really wanted to talk to him in person when he got back to Texas.
So we talked when he got back, and i finally gave him my answer. "Yes!" He had come to tyler to talk to my parents about me and the plans and such the first weekend he was home. Then we went to walmart the last night before i took him back to College Station. We looked at rings, but none of them were my style and they were waaay too expensive for such a lil thing. So i found the perfect $10 sterling silver ring. And although he didn't like the idea of a cheap ring- im a simple girl so i convinced him it was all good.
The next weekend, on Easter Sunday, i went to his parent's house, and his mom kept going on and on about their bluebonnets in the backyard. So Aaron took me back in the pasture area to show me the bluebonnets. As we were standing there he then said something along the lines of "so i really want to do this right" and when i turned to face him he was kneeling down on one knee and he pulled out a beautiful engagement ring!!!!
He was so proud of himself for picking it out all alone. And it was perfect.
Yep...that's our story. APRIL 12, 2009 -Aaron Jacob Henry and Heather Christine Rushing became officially engaged.

Now a for the plans...My parents asked us to take the 40day prayer challenge. They challenged us to pray together for 40days straight to see what God would have us do. Although it took a little while to get started, we completed it! Just about two weeks into the 40 days, i remember both of us agreeing about how much closer we felt to God and each other since we had started praying together. (It's an amazing feeling) After the 40days, we continued to pray together over the phone, and that definitely continued to help make our relationship stronger.
We decided that we're going to wait to get married until he gets back from overseas. He's supposed to be leaving in January 2010 so he should get back in 2011...and after he gets back im sure we'll have more detailed plans! :D
We're sooo excited!!!
